Becoming an SKWCMAA Instructor

Instructor certification ensures that teaching within SKWCMAA remains authentic, consistent, and aligned with the Ip Man Wing Chun system.

Levels of Instructor Certification:

✓ Assistant Instructor

✓ Instructor

✓ Senior Instructor

✓ Master

Requirements

✓ Minimum of 5 years Wing Chun training

✓ Demonstrate all forms (live or video)

✓ 1-year trial period (can be extended)

✓ Attend seminars with GM Kwok or a senior instructor (minimum 3 sessions/year; Annual Training Camp counts as 2 sessions.

✓ Demonstrate all SKWCMAA forms for final evaluation

Transitional Certification Program (TCP)

For instructors and schools from other Wing Chun lineages.

The TCP provides a fair and structured pathway for instructors and schools transitioning from other lineages into SKWCMAA. It ensures alignment with the Association’s teaching standards, values, and curriculum

Program Requirements:

✓ Initial evaluation of lineage, training history, and teaching methods

✓ Attend an introductory seminar led by a senior instructor

✓ Participate in a mentorship program (min. 6 months, online or in-person)

✓ At least one instructor enrolls in the Instructor Certification Course

✓ Adhere to the Association’s Code of Conduct & teaching standards

✓ Gradual curriculum integration (within 12 months)

✓ Host or participate in at least one annual seminar during the transition period

Benefits:

✓ Listed on the official website as a school/instructor in transition

Outcome:

Upon successful completion, the school and instructors receive Transitional Certification, officially recognizing them as aligned members of SKWCMAA

Can I become an instructor without 5 years of Wing Chun training?

No, a minimum of 5 years is required to ensure a solid foundation

I come from another Wing Chun lineage. Can I keep my current students?

Yes. Through the TCP, you can integrate your school into SKWCMAA while continuing to teach.

How often must I attend seminars after certification?

At least one seminar or training camp with GM Kwok or a senior instructor every 2 years
